The Portable Reading Room at Leeds Art Gallery
March 1st to 13th
From March 1st to 13th the Portable Reading Room was in residence at Leeds Art Gallery hosting a series of performances, book launches and other related events as well as offering a place to sit down and read books and multiples from Wild Pansy Press and participating artists and imprints.
Alongside other artists, student groups from the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies occupied the Portable Reading Room for a series of performances, interventions and on-the-spot book and magazine publishing sessions:

Thursday March 8th 3.00 to 5.00: A Real 3D Slide Talk… by Benedict Phillips
Following on from last years sell-out ‘performance’ of 3D thinkers in a 2D World at Cheltenham Science Festival for The Arts Catalyst and Shape and the ‘talk’ of the same name at the V&A, artist Benedict Phillips will be introducing a new talk, this time without slides. A real 3D slide talk will examine the interrelationship between his sculpture, photography and bookwork’s of the past seventeen years. It will be told by way of the artifacts that have been so present in Benedict’s work, but have rarely been seen, including a glass sided suitcase of bombs; the original delivered to downing street in 1999, a tree based on the mathematics of Fibonacci, and a pair of glasses that make everything in the world into Art…

1.00-5.00: To launch a special issue of soanyway.org, an afternoon of talks, readings and conversations on and around the work of avant-garde writer and scholar Richard Kostelanetz.
